Twelve master men and 2 master women joined with younger age class competitors in this meet in Regina on February 14-15. As recent Speed Skating Canada rule changes have re-admitted masters to this mass start competition, this is a good turnout and bodes well for the continuation of masters participation.

I would like to thank all of the Master skaters that came to Regina this weekend. I hope all of you had as much fun as I did.
Wow, what are the chances of getting not 1 but 2 days of virtually no wind in Regina, unheard of. And it was sunny both days as well. Who said Saskatchewan isn't the banana belt of Canada :-) Ice conditions were great although a little frosty on Saturday. Great work by the track guys who swept the ice non-stop all day Saturday.
Once again Randy Plett showed us his awesome power and speed in all of his races. Randy broke the 500m Master 2 Canadian record with a time of 42.45.
The best part was when we skated the 3000m as the second last race on Sunday - then Randy turned around and skated the 5000m fun race with the kids 15 minutes later. Not only did he skate it but he kicked their skinny butts! I wished we could get an official time on that one, it was very fast.
You can never say that people from Regina aren't generous. The lap counter for the 3000m heat saw we were having such a great time he decided to let us skate an extra lap. Does that mean I now hold the M3 3400m Canadian record?
A special thank you to Brett Arnason who went through so much trouble to convinvce Speed Skate Canada to let us Masters have some fun this weekend.
Congratulations to all of the medalists. Hope you all had a great time in Regina.
Looking forward to seeing all of you and many more next year in Winnipeg for the Canadian Long Track Championship.

Thanks to Mickey and the Regina crew! We had a great time and I don't think we got in the way of the kids!!
