On Saturday February 24, 2007, twenty-four Canadian masters skaters from 6 provinces took time away from watching the ongoing World Cup time trials and Olympic Oval Stampede Breakfast to meet in one of the University of Calgary's Kinesiology lecture halls.
45 minutes later, the Canadian Masters Speed Skating Committee had been formed with Brett Aranason of Winnipeg elected as its interim spokesperson and a draft letter to Speed Skating Canada regarding masters competitions had been reviewed and accepted.
